President supports local charity

President Cavaco Silva was the guest of honour at a charity golf tournament at Vale do Lobo earlier this month on the Ocean Golf Course.

The Portugal Charity Cup is a popular annual charity golf event ,now in its fifth year, and saw 60 players come together to raise money for APATRIS 21.

In total €45,000 was raised during the event, with Cavaco Silva and his wife Maria Cavaco Silva attending the opening ceremony and the prize-giving dinner.

Maria Cavaco Silva is the patron of APATRIS 21, a charity which works to support sufferers of Down Syndrome offering medical care assistance, education and integration into society, while also promoting education about Down Syndrome.

A spokesman for Vale do Lobo said: “His presence was a huge honour for the resort and Vale do Lobo is proud to be associated with this special occasion which raises vital funds for worthy causes in the country.”
