São Brás de Alportel opens door to new rural hotels

The goal is to attract high-quality developments – hotels rated at least three stars

The Algarve municipality of São Brás de Alportel is moving forward with a new plan to expand its selection of hotels. At a council meeting on August 12, the municipal council approved the launch of a procedure that will make 180 new tourist beds available for rural hotel projects, under the current Municipal Master Plan.

The goal is to bring in high-quality developments – hotels rated at least three stars – that combine accommodation with areas such as health, nature, sports and culture. The new hotels will be spread across the ‘Serra’, the Algarve’s upland hills, and the ‘Barrocal’, its fertile transition zone between the mountains and coast.

With this initiative, the municipality hopes to create “bolster the local economy, generate jobs, bring value to the territory and reinforce its image as a sustainable tourist destination”.

The application process for interested projects is already open and runs until September 26.

Full details are available on the municipality’s official website, in the “Editais” section.
