Access ramps are being built at the São Brás de Alportel GNR police station in a bid to make it accessible for all citizens and staff.
The works, taking place on Rua do Colégio, are being managed directly by the municipal council and are designed to ensure accessibility for all GNR personnel, staff, and visitors, regardless of mobility limitations.
This initiative is part of a broader collaboration agreement between the municipal council and GNR, following approval of a protocol in a council meeting on September 25.
While the works are led by the council, the station itself belongs to the GNR and is part of the Portuguese State’s assets.
The partnership aims not only to comply with current legislation but also to promote full accessibility, which is essential for exercising the rights guaranteed by the Portuguese Constitution, the council says in a statement.
The project also fits into the borough’s “São Brás Acessível” plan, which gradually adapts public buildings and spaces to meet accessibility standards. As the council says, upgrading the GNR station will improve comfort for visitors while ensuring equal access to this important public service.
