The left-wing CDU coalition – featuring Portugal’s Communist Party (PCP) and Ecologist Party ‘Os Verdes’ (PEV) – has retained its only municipal council in the Algarve, winning for the fourth consecutive time in Silves.
Luísa Conduto Luís will succeed Rosa Palma as mayor after receiving 34.78% of the vote (6,239 votes), more than the PSD-CDS-IL right-wing coalition (30.83%, 5,531), PS Socialists (16.27%, 2,919) and far-right CHEGA (15.55%, 2,789).
CDU will rule without a majority, with three municipal seats, while PSD-CDS-IL and PS received two each and CHEGA just one.
