The municipal council of Silves has opened a public consultation process as part of the review of its Municipal Master Plan (PDM), the main document that governs land use and urban development in the borough.
The consultation period started on March 17 and runs until April 15.
In a statement to the press, the council says the review of the plan aims to update the municipality’s long-term territorial strategy in response to current challenges, including climate change, technological development, and growing pressure in areas such as housing, infrastructure and public services.
The goal is to ensure the planning framework remains up to date and able to guide local development effectively, the council says.
The review will also clarify and potentially adjust rules that, in practice, have shown a need for revision, it adds.
During the public consultation period, residents and stakeholders can submit suggestions using a participation form available on the municipal website.
All related documents, including the terms of reference and the official council decision, can also be consulted online or in person at the Urban Planning and Management Division of the Silves council, as well as at local parish offices.
The municipality says the review process is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and covers territory included in the Algarvensis Geopark – the aspiring UNESCO Global Geopark, covering over 1,300 square kilometres across Loulé, Silves, and Albufeira.
