Two horses – a mare and her foal – which had been stolen from Canil de São Francisco de Assis in Loulé have been found after searches that lasted over two weeks.
The foal was found on Friday, November 7 on land near a local encampment in Loulé, while the mare was located on Sunday, November 9 near the Aquashow water park in Quarteira, volunteer Luís Raso told the Resident.

The foal is receiving “all the necessary care” to return to its “healthy and energetic self”, while the mare, which was “very dehydrated and weak” when found, is due to be seen by a veterinarian this Tuesday.
“We want to thank everyone who, day after day, was involved in this tireless search, from the Algarve to the Alentejo. Without your help, shares, comments and messages, none of this would have been possible,” the animal shelter wrote on its Facebook page.
Founded in 1983, Canil de São Francisco de Assis has provided a refuge for animals in need in the Algarve for over four decades, taking in and caring for thousands of animals.
