Two young dogs ready for their next chapter

Buddy and Billy growing in confidence

Many of Cadela Carlota followers will recognise Buddy and Billy, the two puppies rescued a few weeks ago after being found abandoned by the roadside in the Sargaçal area. After spending time settling into shelter life, both boys are becoming more confident and beginning to show their individual personalities.

They are two gentle and affectionate young dogs. Buddy is the more confident and food-motivated of the pair, while Billy is slightly smaller and more reserved, taking a little longer to trust new situations but showing a very sweet and loving nature once he feels secure.

As with many puppies, they are still learning boundaries — particularly around feeding time — and are continuing to develop their social skills as they grow. For this reason, they do not necessarily need to be adopted together and may thrive equally well in separate homes suited to their individual personalities.

At around four months old, both dogs are ready to find families where they can grow, play, and enjoy normal puppy adventures, while receiving the patience, guidance, and stability every young dog needs. Our hope is simply to find the right forever home for each of them, wherever that may be.

Students lend a helping hand

Recently, we were delighted to welcome students from the Brave Generation Academy – Marina de Lagos campus. With 11 extra pairs of helping hands, our dogs enjoyed wonderful walks, extra attention, and many happy moments outside their kennels.

Experiences like these provide important enrichment and confidence-building opportunities for shelter dogs, while also giving young people a chance to connect with animal welfare in a meaningful way. A big thank you to all the students and staff for their enthusiasm, care, and support.

A special visit for children and dogs alike

We also welcomed seven children taking part in the holiday programme of Projeto Está do Aço, developed in partnership with the Júlio Dantas School Group in Lagos.

During the visit, the children had the opportunity to walk some of our dogs and enjoy time together in our play area, creating joyful moments for both the youngsters and the animals. Activities like these help build confidence, empathy, and understanding, while giving shelter dogs valuable social interaction.

Our sincere thanks go to Miriam and the entire Projeto Está do Aço team for this partnership and for providing such special moments for the children and our dogs.

Volunteers always needed

While visits like these are incredibly valuable, we are always in need of additional volunteers willing to help walk the dogs — particularly on weekend mornings, when extra support makes a real difference. It is also a great opportunity for new volunteers to learn the ropes and become part of the shelter community.

If you would like to volunteer, or are considering offering a home to Buddy, Billy, or another dog in our care, please get in touch. Every walk, every visit, and every adoption helps change a life — for both dogs and people alike.
