Zoomarine launches ‘Operation Clean Beach’

‘Operation Clean Beach’ is the name of a clean-up initiative that Guia’s theme park Zoomarine is planning for May 13 at the Armação de Pêra and Praia Grande beaches in the borough of Silves.

The goal will be to remove all rubbish that has been left behind by humans on the beaches, from plastic and cigarette butts to tin cans and abandoned fishing nets.

Anyone can take part “even if just for 15 or 30 minutes”.

“This is more than just an invitation – it is a request, directed at anyone who wants to contribute to a future with a better environment,” the theme park says in a statement.

Zoomarine says that this is about more than just making the beaches “look prettier”.

“It’s also a matter of safety and public health.”

The initiative begins at 9am.

Contact the theme park for more information.
