The Algarve’s tourism board (RTA) has approved its 2026 plan and budget – more than €8.8 million in total – for what it describes as a “crucial year” for the region.
The plan’s main goal is to keep the Algarve at the top of travellers’ minds by investing in sustainability, innovation, and stronger promotion at home and abroad.
In the document introducing the plan, the tourism board calls for teamwork across the entire sector to ensure the Algarve remains a leading “international, innovative and inclusive destination”.
Several major projects are already lined up for the coming year, the RTA says. One of the highlights is the Iberian Wine Tourism Congress, part of INOVA Algarve 3.0, which aims to boost wine tourism as one of the region’s rising stars.
Sustainability will take the spotlight at the Decarbonise + Algarve Forum, designed to help small- and medium-sized local businesses improve their energy efficiency.
Meanwhile, the Algarve Nature Fest will also return with a special edition celebrating the cultural and natural wealth of the Ria Formosa.
Another key moment in 2026 will be the UNESCO decision on the Algarvensis Geopark, expected in the spring. AS RTA points out, a positive outcome could open new doors for geological tourism in the region.preparations are underway for the new Portugal Events Regional – Algarve incentive program, aimed at attracting more major events to the region.

The RTA is also planning to beef up its presence at key fairs, such as Lisbon’s BTL tourism fair, where it will be the National Guest Destination for the first time in a decade. The region will also appear at FITUR in Madrid, B-Travel in Barcelona, Expovacaciones in Bilbao, INTUR, FINE in Valladolid, and other events considered pivotal to promote the Algarve in the Spanish market.
“With the plan’s unanimous approval, the RTA is reinforcing its commitment to an integrated strategy that values the territory, diversifies our tourist offer, promotes innovation and strengthens the Algarve’s notoriety as a sustainable and competitive destination that is aligned with the challenges of the future,” the board says in a statement.
