Albufeira staged one of the biggest New Year’s Eve parties in Portugal, second only to Madeira, as thousands of people gathered at Praia dos Pescadores to say goodbye to 2025 and welcome in the new year.
The Albufeira Carpe Nox 2026 event turned the seafront into a large-scale, multi-sensory show combining live music, aerial displays, lasers, multimedia projections and special effects.

The night featured performances by Portuguese band Silence 4, an opening aerial show by Flying Dragons, world-champion paramotor pilots, and a special countdown to midnight. The final seconds of 2025 were marked from the newly launched Stage X, with a DJ set synchronised with aircraft, paramotors, pyrotechnics, lasers and visual effects. One of the most talked-about moments saw giant, coloured balls released over the crowd, drawing cheers from revellers below.
Speaking live on RTP1, Albufeira mayor Rui Cristina said the municipality had “raised the bar” this year by betting on a more immersive, technology-driven experience.
Despite stating that Carpe Nox is “already a strong brand”, Cristina insisted that the council has to “keep introducing new challenges to surprise both residents and visitors,” describing New Year’s Eve as an important boost for the local economy.
“Albufeira is Portugal’s main tourism destination, it’s a place that knows how to welcome people, and the New Year season ends up being a lifeline for the local economy,” the mayor said.
Hotel occupancy in the municipality exceeded 90%, with some hotels reporting full capacity, the municipal council says in a statement to the press.
Festivities continued on January 1 with a New Year’s Day concert by another popular Portuguese act, Quatro e Meia, also at Praia dos Pescadores, preceded by an aerial choreography involving two planes releasing coloured smoke.
The wider programme also included an international street food market, curated by chef Nuno Bergonse, which ran in the town centre from December 31 to January 3.
According to Rui Cristina, 185 personnel and 54 operational units from civil protection, emergency services and security forces were deployed for the Carpe Nox celebration, ensuring the event was enjoyed without any major incidents.
On a closing note, the council reiterates that its New Year’s festivities are one of the most high-profile celebrations in the country, with Albufeira Carpe Nox 2026 covered by all major national TV networks.
