Albufeira sports pavilion undergoes €240,000 makeover

“It will be as good as new,” deputy mayor vows

The Albufeira Municipal Pavilion is getting a much-needed facelift totalling over €240,000. The project, which began on June 2, is expected to wrap up by mid-August, just in time to welcome athletes back in top-notch conditions.

Despite the construction, the pavilion remains open, continuing to welcome between 250 and 300 athletes per day. Activities are being held in areas not affected by the works.

The upgrade – valued at €242,878 – includes sanding, painting, and varnishing the wooden floors, replacing damaged skirting boards and flooring, repairing doors, installing new epoxy flooring in key corridors, updating shower valves in the locker rooms, and several other improvements, including new partitions and ceilings.

“This is a space with intense daily use, and natural wear and tear,” says Albufeira mayor José Carlos Rolo. “With some clubs and athletes on summer break, we used this time to carry out the repairs to make it more functional and pleasant.”

Deputy mayor Cristiano Cabrita

Deputy mayor Cristiano Cabrita elaborated further, adding that “with Albufeira gearing up for its role as European City of Sport in 2026,” it is vital that its sports facilities are in excellent condition. “The pavilion will be as good as new,” Cabrita vows.
