Albufeira turns into Portugal’s Halloween capital

Spooky fun, flash mobs, haunted runs and ghoulish performances will light up the town on October 31

Albufeira is gearing up for a night of thrills and chills as it transforms into “Portugal’s Halloween capital” on Friday, October 31.

From sunset onwards, the town centre – including Largo Eng.º Duarte Pacheco and Rua and Travessa 5 de Outubro – will become a “haunted village” crawling with witches, zombies, vampires, ghosts, spiders, bats, and other terrifying characters.

The evening kicks off at 8pm with a spellbinding performance by The Addams Family, featuring 12 dancers portraying Morticia, Gomez, Uncle Fester, and Wednesday. A public flash mob follows, ensuring no one is left standing on the sidelines.

Next, Count Dracula makes a dramatic entrance, interacting with the crowd and taking part in the Halloween Contest to crown the night’s most fearsome guests.

For thrill-seekers, the Spooky Run starts at 8pm: a 5km run/walk through Albufeira’s moonlit streets. Participants can register online to secure a T-shirt and claim their spot in the “most terrifying race of the year”.

At 9pm, Morticia returns for a mix of music, dance, and comedy, with a special routine led by Wednesday that again invites audience participation. Later, around 10pm, the Dance of the Damned transforms the city into a gothic court-inspired spectacle, blending classical music with electronic beats. Performers roam the streets in haunting costumes.

From 11pm, the Halloween Fest kicks off, featuring DJ Dhanny, circus acts, zombie dancers, and more. The Galeria Pintor Samora Barros will be decked out with lights, projections, flying witches, spiders, skeletons, pumpkins, and a dedicated kids’ Halloween playground with face painting, workshops, and a mini haunted house.

As midnight strikes, the Full Moon Curse descends: black confetti, smoke effects, light explosions, and howling werewolves turn the Largo Eng.º Duarte Pacheco into a rave of the undead until 1am.

Many other surprises and events are promised for the event, which is free and open to all.
