Algarve Almond Blossom Festival postponed due to weather

Popular event pushed back to late February over safety concerns and solidarity with storm-hit regions

The Algarve Almond Blossom Festival (Festival das Amendoeiras em Flor) has been postponed, with organisers citing bad weather warnings and a desire to stand in solidarity with communities hit by Storm Kristin.

The festival, originally scheduled for February 6, 7 and 8 in Alta Mora, Castro Marim, will now take place on February 20, 21 and 22, organisers confirmed.

In a statement, the organising committee – made up of the Alta Mora Friends Cultural, Recreational and Sports Association and the Castro Marim Municipal Council – said the decision was taken after joint reflection and planning, with visitor and worker safety as the top priority.

The move follows alerts issued by Civil Protection authorities, warning of adverse weather conditions in the coming days. Organisers said the postponement respects official guidance from the District Civil Protection Command and aims to prevent unnecessary risks.

The decision was also influenced by the impact of Storm Kristin on central Portugal. Significant damage to homes, businesses and infrastructure has affected several entities involved in the festival’s organisation, creating additional logistical challenges.

Tickets already purchased will remain valid for the new dates. Those who prefer a refund can request it by email at arcdaa.festival.amendoeiras@outlook.com or by calling +351 963 336 104 or +351 913 794 352.

The Almond Blossom Festival is one of the Algarve’s best-known seasonal events, celebrating the blooming of almond trees with hikes, music, food and many other activities.
