Algarve Rotarians recently responded to an appeal for support for Portugal’s brave Bombeiros (firefighters) with a donation of water bottles and energy bars.
When the wife of Raymond Parfait, member of the Rotary Club Estoi Palace International (RCEPI), suggested supporting the country’s firefighters, he immediately thought of involving their friends and fellow Rotarians to strengthen the solidarity effort.
In conversation with Commander Irlandino Santos of the Loulé Fire Department – himself a member of the Rotary Club of Loulé – we learned that firefighters in the Algarve were collecting donations of 0.5L bottles of water and cereal bars to be distributed to their colleagues battling fires in the north of the country.
Within just 48 hours, thanks to the generosity of friends and members of the Rotary Club Estoi Palace International, enough funds were raised to purchase three pallets containing a total of 4,500 bottles of water.
The supplier, Adérito Cavaco, also a member of the Rotary Club of Loulé, kindly provided a special price and last Thursday, August 21, alongside Raymond Parfait, delivered the pallets to the Loulé fire station.
