The Mar Shopping Algarve shopping centre in Loulé was evacuated today (December 1) after a car caught fire in the underground car park.
Authorities were alerted just before 1pm, and by the time firefighters arrived, witnesses had already extinguished the flames before it damaged the vehicle further or spread to other nearby cars.
“The evacuation protocol was followed and the situation at the shopping centre is now normal,” a source from the Algarve’s civil protection command told The Resident.
It is unclear how the fire started.
