Armazém Das Artes in Portimão presents “Barlavento Colours”

Several of the artist's exhibited works include pigments made from rock samples gathered in the west Algarve

Armazém Das Artes gallery in Portimão has announced its upcoming exhibition, titled “Barlavento Colours”, featuring the innovative works of renowned UK artist Lindsey Jean McLean in her inaugural Portuguese solo exhibition. The exhibition runs from March 7 to March 22.

The series of works displayed in “Barlavento Colours” explores the relationship between colour, symbolism and femininity inspired by McLean’s close family connection to the coast of the western Algarve (Barlavento Algarvio).

She was so inspired by the unique beauty and colour of the cliffs in the area that she gathered earth pigments from the rocks to make handmade oil paint. Several of her exhibited works include pigments made from these rock samples, forging a direct bond between the figures in her compositions and the Algarve region itself.

McLean’s work draws from her experience of being a female artist and her relationship to art history. She takes an empowering and celebratory view of femininity, creating space for softness, tenderness, self-acceptance, drama, ecstasy and absence.

Join gallery owners António Serra and Cristina Canto for an opening reception on March 7, from 4pm to 8pm, where attendees can meet the artist and enjoy live music, refreshments and a guided tour of the exhibition.
