Budens gears up for vintage bike bash

10 years on, one of the Algarve’s quirkiest cycling events keeps rolling strong

The small town of Budens in Vila do Bispo is gearing up for the milestone 10th edition of its Vintage Bicycle Ride (Passeio de Bicicletas Antigas), which is pedalling into town on Sunday, June 15.

Organised by the Budens parish council, the annual event has become a beloved local tradition, known for its originality and community spirit.

The nine-kilometre adventure will begin at 9.30am at the local school (Centro Escolar de Budens), taking participants on a ride through the stunning coast-hugging villages of Figueira and Salema.

Participants of all ages are welcome to take part and encouraged to bring their old bikes and dress in their best vintage outfits.

The event will end with live music by accordionist Nuno Duarte and a hearty lunch featuring the Algarve’s famous ‘papas de xerém’ – a corn porridge often served with the freshest seafood the region has to offer.

Registrations are open until Wednesday, June 11 via email (geral@freguesiadebudens.pt) or an online form.

The ride is organised by Vila do Bispo municipal council, the Rodas de Viriato group, and the Barão de S. Miguel Recreational Society.
