Castro Marim was the only municipal council in the Algarve that PSD was able to retain in Sunday’s local elections – despite the party’s overtaking of PS in Vila do Bispo.
PSD candidate Filomena Sintra – who took over as mayor after Francisco Amaral stepped down in April – was the clear winner with 53.93% of votes (2,047), significantly ahead of PS (32.51%, 1,234 votes) and CHEGA (9.40%, 357 votes).
PSD will have three municipal seats against two for PS.
