A four-year-old girl died on Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a car in the village of Junqueira, in Castro Marim.
According to tabloid Correio da Manhã, the child was crossing the road after getting out of a nursery minibus when she was hit by a car.
The girl went into cardiac arrest and was transported in critical condition to the emergency unit in Vila Real de Santo António, where she was later pronounced dead.
A total of 21 emergency personnel were deployed to the scene, including teams from the Vila Real de Santo António fire brigade, INEM emergency services and GNR police.
An INEM medical helicopter was also dispatched to assist in the emergency response.
CM adds that the young girl’s family is receiving psychological support.
No information has yet been released about the driver.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
