A man has died after his car left the road and plunged down a ravine on the IC27 in Castro Marim, in the eastern Algarve.
The crash happened at 9.32am this Wednesday (March 4) in Ribeira da Foupana, near Odeleite, according to civil protection authorities.
The man is believed to have been the sole occupant of the vehicle. Despite a major rescue operation, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to national tabloid newspaper Correio da Manhã, the car veered off the road in what has been described as a violent crash, ending up at the bottom of a steep embankment. Firefighters from Vila Real de Santo António were called in to help rescue the victim from the ravine.
