After months of gloomier forecasts, Portugal is showing signs of renewed optimism
Consumer confidence bounced back in May, following two months of decline, while the economic climate indicator rose for the second straight month – breaking a three-month losing streak.
The latest data from Portugal’s National Statistics Institute (INE) suggests a shift in sentiment. According to business and consumer surveys, confidence is gradually returning to both households and companies.
The rebound in consumer confidence was driven largely by brighter expectations for the country’s economic future. People are also feeling slightly more positive about their household finances, both present and future.
On the business front, the economic climate indicator – based on surveys across various sectors – rose in both April and May. Confidence picked up in services, manufacturing, and construction, though it slipped in retail.
