The highly anticipated gastronomic event takes place on the city’s riverfront between August 5 and 10.
Between August 5 and 10, some 130,000 people are expected to attend the annual Sardine Festival, Portimão’s largest and most eagerly awaited gastronomic event of the year.
Now in its 29th edition, the event’s organisation expects that 2,5 tonnes of sardines will be consumed over the six-day festival. During the event, the silver fish, known as a nutritional powerhouse, thanks to its high content of omega-3 fatty acids, protein, vitamins, and minerals, can be enjoyed as part of the classic “Prato Festival” – five grilled sardines, bread, boiled potatoes, and Algarve-style salad for €11 (no drink included). Other menus, snacks, desserts, and regional products will also be available, offering something for every palate.
Beyond the festival grounds, six local restaurants – Dona Barca, Forte e Feio, Retiro do Peixe Assado, Peixarada, Ú Venâncio and Zizá – will offer special sardine dishes at prices set by each venue.
Meanwhile, three stages will offer live music each day. Besides sardines, headlining acts will perform on the main stage every night from 22:00: Rui Veloso (August 5); Pedro Abrunhosa (August 6); Diogo Piçarra (August 7); Nena (August 8); Para Sempre Marco (August 9) and Resistência (August 10).
