Delta aims to become a global brand

The founder of Delta Cafés has set his focus on making the brand into a globally recognised coffee, particularly in Asia and Europe.

Rui Nabeiro, who founded Delta in 1961 in the town of Campo Maior, Alentejo, has revealed that it is time for his company to take on the international market.

The Delta coffee roasting plant is located in the Alentejo and it is anticipated that the brand will be rolled out into 10 new countries by the end of 2014.

With an annual production of over 20 million tonnes of coffee in Portugal and a staff of 3,110, Delta’s founder believes that “business will be better” if they expand the products’ distribution.

In sync with the expansion plan, Delta’s original slogan ‘A Verdade do Café’ (The Truth of Coffee) will be changed to ‘O Café da Sua Vida’ (the coffee of your life).

The businessman has also confirmed Delta’s plans to continue buying coffee beans from Angola, specifically the coffee beans produced in the Kwanza Sul province.

Kwanza Sul province is the main supplier of one of the Delta group companies based in Angola, and Nabeiro noted at a recent meeting in Campo Maior, that the group would continue to buy coffee beans from producers in order to allow for development of their plantations.

“We are not going to focus on producing coffee beans but rather on buying farmers’ produce,” said Nabeiro, adding that his group would continue to develop its commercial arm in Angola, where it has a staff of 200.
