Portimão Câmara is promoting a large number of events for residents and tourists alike, aiming to attract thousands of people to the city this summer.

A varied programme of cultural, sports and music events for all ages and tastes has been planned with one of the highlights being the Agosto Azul (Blue August) initiative.

The city will be covered in blue during August, with art exhibitions by various artists expected to follow the theme.

The activities planned for the Agosto Azul event will combine the life of the seventh Portugal President and Portimão son, Manuel Teixeira Gomes, with the local landscape, heritage and traditions.

Throughout the month, there will be several ‘blue’ initiatives, such as the blue parade, the blue balls and the blue street theatre show that will take place from August 19 to 22 in front of the Câmara building at Praça 1º de Maio.

Praia da Rocha will be promoting sport, fitness and wellbeing with activities at the beach sports arena including yoga, windsurfing, diving, sailing, dancing, beach soccer and many others.

From August 6 to August 8, Praia da Rocha will host the Mundialito Beach Football competition for fans of this sporting event.

At night, Praia da Rocha is set to become a large outdoor cinema.

For lovers of speed, the Algarve Motor Park, on August 8 and 9, will be hosting the world’s best drivers in the Race of Champions.

Food will also be high on the Portimão agenda, with the popular Festival da Sardinha (Sardine Festival) being held between August 6 and 15, and promises to give visitors the best of the Algarve cuisine together with Portuguese, African and Brazilian music along the riverside area.

Fashion is also part of the summer programme in Portimão, with the Mini Look and Look Fashion parades being held as part of the Trade Week fair at the riverside from August 26 to August 29.

The Trade Week will also include the Stock Out Retail Fair, allowing visitors to purchase clothing and other items from the local smaller businesses at promotional prices.

Especially for children and animal lovers, the Quinta Pedagógica in the centre of the city will provide a taste of the countryside with visitors able to interact with farm animals.
