Faro to spend €184,000 on Christmas decorations

Faro is getting ready to shine this Christmas, with €184,000 being invested in decorations and lighting between November 21 and January 6.

The LED lighting, designed for low energy consumption, will be on daily from 5.30pm to 1am, the council revealed in a statement to Lusa news agency. The daily schedule of seven and a half hours aims to keep energy savings in line with recent years, it added.

This year’s investment – €149,600 plus 23% VAT (a total of €184,008) – represents a 2.1% increase compared to 2024, when the municipality spent €146,500 plus VAT on its Christmas display.

The decorations will cover main streets, shopping areas, and the downtown district, helping to boost the festive spirit and attract visitors to the city centre, the council says.

In addition to the lights, Faro will once again promote initiatives to support local businesses and set up the town’s traditional Christmas tree.
