Four street dealers arrested in Algarve drug busts

Thousands of doses seized as police clampdown on street-level drug dealing

PSP police officers in the Algarve have arrested four people in 24 hours in anti-drug operations in Olhão, Lagos and Portimão.

Thousands of individual doses of illegal substances, cash, and even a firearm were also seized during the crackdowns, the police force announced in a statement this Thursday (December 4).

The first arrest took place early on Wednesday morning in Olhão. Local officers stopped a 56-year-old man on the street and found he was carrying cocaine, hashish, and a large amount of cash. A search of his home followed, uncovering 6,633 individual doses of cocaine, 1,572 doses of hashish, €17,500 in cash, a 12-calibre sawn-off shotgun with four rounds, two digital scales, and various items linked to drug preparation and packaging.

Later that morning in Lagos, the PSP’s Criminal Investigation Brigade detained a 49-year-old man caught red-handed selling drugs. A subsequent house search uncovered 503 doses of heroin, 1,293 of hashish, 364 of cannabis herb, 80 of ecstasy, and €1,925 in cash.

On the same day in Portimão, two more suspects – aged 21 and 27 – were arrested separately during the day, both for drug dealing. Around 20 individual doses of hashish were seized in those cases.

All the suspected drug dealers are due to appear before a judge this Thursday.

The Faro District PSP stressed that it remains committed to tackling drug trafficking and consumption, carrying out daily operations to ensure public safety and peace across the region.
