Golfers head to Algarve as new season gets into swing at Vale do Lobo

September’s cooler climes draw golfers to Royal and Ocean courses

As September welcomes cooler climes to the Algarve, a new golf season is getting into swing at the Algarve’s prestigious Vale do Lobo resort.

For many golfers, this is the perfect time of year to take to Portugal’s fairways and Vale do Lobo is inviting golfers to play their best game with two outstanding 18-hole courses.

The par 72 Royal Golf Course was designed by top American golf architect Rocky Roquemore, based on original drawings by Sir Henry Cotton, and is recognised as one of Portugal’s most scenic and challenging courses. The island green of the 9th and the famous clifftop carryover of the 16th – one of Europe’s most photographed holes – are enough to get any golfer’s pulse racing.

The course’s rolling fairways are set amidst pine trees and beautiful lakes surrounded by wildflowers, for an incredibly immersive experience in nature during play.

The undulating fairways of the par 73 Ocean Golf Course, which run alongside the Ria Formosa nature reserve before leading gently down to the shores of the Atlantic, are another favourite with golfers from around the globe. Designed by Sir Henry Cotton, the iconic course has been delighting golfers for 40 years, with recent enhancements ensuring players can continue to excel on its inspiring holes.

The resort is also home to an impressive Golf Shop, offering an extensive selection of premium apparel and essential products, including a seasonally changing range of golf shirts, shorts, jackets, dresses, sunglasses, gloves, bags and more.

Accessories from Titleist, TaylorMade and Srixon are all stocked, along with clothing and footwear from designer brands including J.Lindeberg, Hugo Boss, Lacoste, Ralph Lauren, Peter Millar, Ping, Par69, GFore, Tail, Daily Sports, Galvin Green, Ecco, Skechers, New Balance, Kankura and Calvin Klein. A select number of stylish Vale do Lobo branded items are also available, ensuring every golfer can always look their best out on the fairways.

The golf shop is located in Vale do Lobo’s welcoming clubhouse, along with a fitness centre and a comprehensive range of golfing services.

Chef Maurice Belhaj and his family serve up a superb range of Mediterranean and modern European dishes, from duck breast salad with foie gras to roasted lamb carré with spinach gratin. The legendary apple and blueberry crumble is a much-deserved reward for those who’ve played well – or an ideal consolation prize for those who haven’t!

Players of all levels who would like advice on improving their game can book coaching sessions with Vale do Lobo’s expert golf professionals. The resort also runs a hugely popular Junior Golf Academy during school holidays, where younger players can refine their skills and techniques with five days of personalised lessons.
