THE SPEAKER of the Ukrainian parliament announced on Tuesday that the country’s ruling pro-western coalition had officially collapsed following disputes between the President and Prime Minister.
President Victor Yuchenko’s Our Ukraine party pulled out of the coalition on September 3 after Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko’s party sided with the pro-Moscow opposition Party of Regions to pass several laws that the President saw as a threat to his powers.
Parliament now has 30 days to try to form a new ruling coalition.
