Lagoa serves up sweet traditions at 21st Convent Sweets Show

The event invites visitors to indulge in sweets made using centuries-old recipes

Lagoa is gearing up for the 21st edition of ‘Mostra do Doce Conventual’, an event which shines the spotlight on traditional conventual sweets.

Taking place from September 3 to 6 at the São José convent’s cultural centre, the event invites visitors to indulge in sweets made using centuries-old recipes of nuns who lived in Portuguese convents and monasteries.

There will be a wide variety of cakes, jams, honey, and classic drinks like medronho brandy, all crafted by local producers. The fair pays tribute to Portugal’s traditional convent kitchens, where simple ingredients such as sugar, egg yolks and almonds were used to create unique recipes that have endured for generations.

This year’s edition also brings live entertainment, showcooking sessions, pastry workshops for children, and the opening of Cinedoce, a themed exhibition by award-winning cake designer Ana Remígio.

The event runs from 7pm to midnight. Admission is free.
