PORTUGUESE AUTHORITIES have shelved the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann due to a lack of evidence.
A statement released by the Portuguese Attorney General this afternoon (Monday 21 July) also said that Gerry McCann, Kate McCann and Robert Murat have all had their arguido status lifted and are now able to talk about the case.
It added that those with legitimate interest in the case will be able to access information regarding the police investigations.
However, the investigation would be reopened at any time if any new evidence is presented to the Portuguese authorities.
Clarence Mitchell told reporters that Kate and Gerry hope that their private investigators will be able to access information to help continue with their main aim of finding Madeleine.
Kate and Gerry McCann have announced they will be speaking about the statement made by the Portuguese Attorney General in a press conference at 7pm this evening on Sky News.
The Portuguese lawyer for Robert Murat, Francisco Pagarete, told The Resident: “Robert says he his very happy that his arguido status has been lifted and he will finally now be able to go back to his life.
“Robert is not in the Algarve at the moment but we expect him to return home next week sometime.
“Now Robert is no longer an arguido he will be making the most of being free to travel to wherever he wants without restraint.”
