Major roadworks move forward in Vila Nova de Cacela

Vila Real de Santo António is carrying out a €1.5 million road resurfacing initiative

Vila Real de Santo António’s “Pavimenta VRSA” road resurfacing program has entered its second phase this week, focusing on important works in the parish of Vila Nova de Cacela.

This marks a significant step forward in the overall €1.5 million investment by Vila Real de Santo António’s municipal council aimed at improving the municipality’s road network.

One of the major projects nearing completion is the resurfacing of Municipal Road 1248 – a key route connecting the EN125 national road to Praia da Manta Rota. This upgrade promises safer and smoother travel for daily users of this vital access point, the council says.

Meanwhile, work is ongoing in the Portela area, targeting the main road and access points, with new construction set to begin this week in the Orlamar Urbanisation and surrounding streets near Manta Rota.

Since its launch, the Pavimenta VRSA initiative has covered all the municipality’s parishes, aiming to renew around 44,000 square metres of municipal roads. The goal is clear: enhance mobility, boost road safety, and improve urban spaces for residents and visitors alike, the local authority says.

Mayor Álvaro Araújo says the road resurfacing project represents a clear commitment from the local council. “We’re not just patching potholes – we’re renewing critical access routes, improving quality of life, and making sure no community is left behind.”

Earlier phases have already tackled key roads at the entrance to Vila Real de Santo António, including Avenida dos Bombeiros Portugueses, Avenida Salgueiro Maia, and the Encalhe roundabout, along with industrial zones and neighborhoods such as Monte Fino, Monte Gordo, Cevadeiras, Manta Rota, and Vila Nova de Cacela.
