VRSA backs firefighters with nearly €500,000

Financial aid aims to ensure the team has the resources needed to respond to emergencies

Vila Real de Santo António is investing nearly €500,000 to support local firefighters and strengthen emergency response services in 2026.

The funding, totalling €487,681, will go to the Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Vila Real de Santo António and Castro Marim, helping ensure the team has the resources needed to respond to emergencies across the two boroughs.

The municipal council says the agreement continues a partnership first established in 2023 and covers operational, logistical and financial support for the firefighters’ day-to-day work.

The brigade is responsible for emergency response in both Vila Real de Santo António and Castro Marim, with a permanent team on standby at the station, ready to react at any time.

This financial aid will also help maintain an intermunicipal civil protection centre, which coordinates emergency situations and provides a permanent contact line for the public.

By reinforcing support for the fire service, the municipality says it aims to ensure a faster, more effective response to emergencies and improve safety for residents.
