Albufeira’s Crédito Agrícola bank has donated five new breathing apparatus units to the local volunteer fire brigade (Associação Humanitária dos Bombeiros Voluntários de Albufeira).
Worth around €8,000, the devices – ARICAS MSA M1 open-circuit breathing apparatus – are designed to help firefighters work safely in environments with toxic gases or low oxygen levels, such as urban and industrial fires.
According to the bank, the model was chosen for its ergonomic design and its “click” cylinder replacement system, which allows air bottles to be changed quickly and safely, improving operational efficiency during emergency responses.
David Alves, president of the Crédito Agrícola de Albufeira board, said the initiative reflects the institution’s commitment to supporting the local community.
“Our social responsibility is reflected in our closeness and support for local associations, particularly those carrying out humanitarian work, where the volunteer firefighters hold a prominent place because of the irreplaceable service they provide to our community,” he said.
The handover ceremony was held on March 10 and attended by Crédito Agrícola de Albufeira board members Carlos Vieira and Eugénia Batista. Representing the firefighters’ association were vice-president Vítor Calado and second commander Milton Rodrigues, along with several members of the brigade.
