MediaMarkt stores to reopen as Darty from October 1

New brand arrives with investment of over €30 million

Portugal’s MediaMarkt stores are being rebranded as Darcy from October 1 following their acquisition by the Fnac Darty Group.

The French brand, founded in 1957 and boasting more than 500 stores across Europe, is making its entrance into Portugal with an investment of over €30 million and an expansion plan of 40 stores by 2030. More than 500 new jobs are expected to be created, with €5 million already earmarked for the rebranding.

“The transition to Darty in Portugal is a fundamental step in our European growth strategy,” said Nuno Luz, Managing Director of Fnac Darty Iberia. “We believe the brand’s value proposition, centred on trust and total service, will meet the expectations of Portuguese consumers. With a solid expansion plan, we are determined to offer the best in technology and appliances, while contributing to more conscious and sustainable consumption.”

To mark its arrival, Darty will be giving away over €200,000 in prizes and rolling out special offers between October 1 and 5.

For existing customers, the rebrand comes with reassurance: all warranties, gift cards, vouchers, repairs, and ongoing orders from MediaMarkt remain valid and will now be handled directly by Darty, both in-store and online at www.darty.pt.
