Discover Portimão, its history and uniqueness
A new exhibition in Portimão will take visitors on a journey through the history and heritage of the city.
Starting tomorrow, Saturday, August 2, the Friends of the Portimão Museum will present the exhibition ‘Passear pela História das Histórias de Portimão’ (A Journey Through the History of Portimão’s Stories) at Praça Manuel Teixeira Gomes, by the riverside.
This is the ninth edition of a street exhibition project called ‘A Walk Through History,’ which began in 2017. It is an invitation to discover Portimão, its history, the uniqueness of its places, its people, its heritage, and the main aspects that have shaped this territory and its society.
Through various panels, the exhibition presents a series of images where visitors can learn about the beginnings of the intense associative, maritime, industrial, rural, commercial and tourist life that shaped the municipality of Portimão, recalling the urban and social landscape of Portimão from the old “Vila Nova” (Portimão used to be called ‘Vila Nova de Portimão’) to the present day.
The exhibition will be on display until September 21.
