New owners release Fábrica do Inglês mini-documentary

Short documentary revisits the landmark’s past, reveals its present state and promises a future revival

Carvoeiro Branco and Antrix – the developers who recently purchased the historic Fábrica do Inglês in Silves – have released a new short documentary paying tribute to one of the Algarve’s most iconic cultural landmarks.

“The documentary takes viewers on a journey through the history of Fábrica do Inglês, revisiting its remarkable past and its deep connection with the city of Silves,” the developers say. “Through never-before-seen archival footage, recovered images, and interviews – including a testimony from a figure involved in the 1999 project – the short documentary offers an intimate look at a place that shaped generations and remains an important symbol of local identity.”

The nearly six-minute video also shows the current state of the complex, showing the “contrast between its historic importance and present condition”.

The documentary ends with a message from Erik de Vlieger, CEO of Antrix and Carvoeiro Branco, expressing his goal to honour the memory of Fábrica do Inglês and begin a “new chapter that restores vitality to the space.”

In a statement announcing the launch of the documentary, the developers say the video is part of a broader effort to “reconnect the community with Fábrica do Inglês, to preserve its story, and to celebrate its place in the region’s cultural heritage.”
