Enrolment for the 2025/26 academic year is now open
Nobel Algarve British International School in Almancil has announced two globally recognised post-16 study programmes launching in September 2025: the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme and the BTEC International Extended Diploma in Sport. These additions mark a significant step forward in offering diverse, future-ready pathways for students aged 16–19.
The IB Diploma Programme is renowned for its academic breadth, critical thinking focus, and global outlook. Students study six subjects and complete the IB core – Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) – which promotes independence, creativity, and social responsibility.
IB subjects on offer include English A, French B, Portuguese B, English B, ab initio Spanish or Mandarin, Business Management, History, Environmental Systems and Societies, Biology, Physics, and two Mathematics pathways.
Alongside the IB, the school is launching the BTEC International Extended Diploma in Sport, a coursework-based qualification equivalent to three A-Levels. Blending practical sessions with theory, the BTEC suits students interested in sport performance, coaching, fitness, or management. It’s also ideal for those aiming to enter university or the workforce with strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
Head of School David Jenkins, an experienced IB educator, emphasises the importance of offering both academic and applied learning options: “Whether students are preparing for university or the workforce, our dual-pathway approach ensures they can follow the route best aligned with their strengths and aspirations. The IB Diploma and BTEC in Sport offer two distinct but equally valuable educational experiences – each challenging, enriching, and relevant to the world students will enter.”
The programmes will be led by expert educators, Yovna Mewasingh (IB Coordinator) and Georgia Dean (BTEC Sport Leader), both with strong track records in their fields.
