New sign on A2 welcomes visitors to Algarve

Tourism board says “striking” sign is part of a broader strategic plan to enhance and promote the Algarve brand.

The Algarve Tourism Board (Turismo do Algarve) has replaced the letters of the sign ‘ALGARVE’ that welcomes visitors to the region. It is located next to the Paderne toll booth on the A2 motorway, the main entrance road to the region.

“The work involved dismantling the old structure and installing new, larger letters that are more modern, sustainable and striking,” says the tourism board.

“The new letters are made of aluminium, with yellow acrylic fronts and interior LED lighting with front lighting, ensuring visibility both during the day and night. With a total length of 16.20 metres and a height of 2.90 metres, the structure was created to ensure durability, energy efficiency and traffic safety, including light intensity regulators to prevent glare for motorists.”

The new sign, authorised by Infraestruturas de Portugal, is part of the 55th anniversary celebrations of the Algarve Tourism Region and of a broader strategic plan to enhance and promote the Algarve brand.

“We want those who arrive in the Algarve to feel truly welcome. The renovation of the sign on the A2 is a symbolic gesture, but yet of great importance, as it improves the image of the destination, reinforces its identity and is part of a wider set of actions we are developing to improve the welcome we give to those who visit us,” says André Gomes, president of Turismo do Algarve.

The intervention in Paderne complements other emblematic actions to promote the destination, such as the recent giant panel installed in the arrivals area of Faro Airport. Measuring 99 metres wide, this display presents the Algarve’s main tourist products and serves as a powerful welcome message to the almost 10 million passengers who pass through the airport each year.

The next intervention will be the refurbishment of the portico located on the Guadiana Bridge, which serves as a symbolic gateway to the Algarve for those arriving from Spain.
