Family members, friends and residents continue their search for 38-year-old Greg Monks
The family of missing Greg Monks is calling for any kind of help that people can offer as it has been almost one week since he vanished without a trace in Albufeira.
Family members, friends and local residents have been searching the area where he was last seen, even using drones to try to locate the 38-year-old from Glasgow.
Greg was last seen in the early hours of Wednesday morning (May 28) in the Albufeira. He had flown into Portugal on Tuesday with a group of friends and had gone out to celebrate the start of their trip.
According to his cousin Alison Meechan Fraser,Greg was last spotted by CCTV surveillance cameras at around 3.27am on Wednesday morning, walking along Rua da Gralheira near a villa known as Villa Aguia Mar.
His family is concerned Greg may have become lost and suffered some kind of accident while trying to find his way back to his accommodation.
GNR police are investigating the disappearance, while family members have contacted local hospitals to check if Greg was admitted as a patient. Meanwhile, they are calling on the local community to help out with the searches.
A Facebook group, Missing Person Greg Monks – Albufeira, Portugal, has been set up to provide regular updates on the searches, and to allow people to contact the family.
An update has been posted this Tuesday afternoon by Greg’s sister Jillian, revealing that the investigation has been taken over by PJ police.
“The GNR advised yesterday evening the case would now be dealt with by Policia Judiciaria. At present we have had no contact yet. British Embassy in Portugal has said they will arrange a meeting asap, but unsure how long that will take to be set up.
“My family are continuing to search the area he was last seen until we have an update otherwise. We appreciate everyone’s help and support searching the area, if you have searched anywhere please let us know by a map screenshot so we can ensure we aren’t just searching the same area. If you can send to the page we can keep track of this alternatively message me or Carlyn Monks

On the night he disappeared, Greg was wearing dark blue Nike shorts and t-shirt. He is 6.1 feet tall (around 1.85m), has blues eyes and dark hair.
