Once again this festive season there will be two opportunities to brave the cold Atlantic Ocean and ‘Swim for Shoes’, the popular initiative held annually on Armação de Pêra beach to raise funds to purchase footwear for needy children.
Dates are on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day at 11am and participants are asked to gather on the beach in front of the Holiday Inn Algarve.
Organisers say: “All you need to do is turn up with swimwear, towel and go in for a full swim or just a paddle – the choice is yours as long as part of you gets wet!” The aim is to ensure that as many local needy children as possible can start 2014 with a new pair of shoes.
Adults and children are welcome to take part but do so at their own risk, say organisers.
