One man has died, and another has been seriously injured, in an incident during work to restore electricity in the storm-battered municipality of Leiria.
E-REDES, the company responsible for ensuring the nation’s electricity supply, has confirmed the incident, which took place around 10am today in the Sismaria neighbourhood of Leiria.
According to SIC Notícias, the two men were employed by Canas – a company providing services to E-REDES. They were ‘repairing’ the network when there was “a discharge” – the origin of which has not yet been explained.
In spite of the arrival of emergency first-responders, the man’s death was declared at the scene. He is understood to have been 37-years-old.
His 40-year-old colleague has been transported to hospital.
