A foreign paraglider died this Monday (January 19) after falling onto a rocky area near Praia da Cordoama in the Algarve municipality of Vila do Bispo.
According to the Portuguese Maritime Authority (AMN), the accident occurred late in the morning, with the cause of the accident still unknown.
Lagos port captain and head of local maritime police Hugo da Guia said the man fell from the top of a cliff onto a rocky area near the beach while paragliding with friends. Speaking to Lusa news agency, the port captain confirmed his friends are being questioned as part of the investigation.
“At this stage, we are carrying out enquiries to determine the exact circumstances in which the accident occurred,” he said.
Rescue operations involved nine civil protection personnel, supported by four vehicles and a helicopter.
