Following our report last week on the shocking case of a young mum who had her legs and six fingers amputated after contracting tick fever, there has been an outpouring of positive attention and support. Readers have written in and are busy collecting bottletops to help raise the money that Pathy de Souza Nascimento needs for good-quality prosthetic legs – and SIC television has picked up on the story and featured the 31-year-old in a “Boa Tarde” transmission, warning of the dangers of contracting tick fever.
Presenter Conceição Lino listened to Pathy’s horrific ordeal and there were moments when very few could have contained their emotion.
As to the future, the brave mother-of-one left the TV studios laden with gifts to make life a little easier.
She is still very keen to gather bottletops, which will go towards the expense of prosthetic legs, and she is due to have an appointment at Portimão Hospital very soon to find out when she can hope to start the long-road towards her fitting with false limbs.
“I am so grateful for all the support and care people are showing,” said the quiet-spoken young woman from her home in Algoz this week. “Anyone who has bottletops to give me can call me or my husband Carlos, and we will be able to organise where they should be delivered to. I really am grateful.”
The Algarve Resident will bring readers updated reports on Pathy’s progress.
