PJ investigates ‘burning body’ discovered in Almada

Residents ‘perplexed’ - say no-one local reported as missing

The body of a ‘carbonised man’ was discovered at the bottom of a set of steps in a quiet area of Almada last night.

PJ police of Setúbal are investigating this latest puzzle in a municipality known for violent crime – but in this particular case, an area that is a quiet corner of Almada, known as Vale de Flores, and where residents are described as “perplexed” by the situation.

“Everyone knows each other here”, local Luís Barradas told Correio da Manhã. “No one has talked about any family member, or friend, who is missing.”

The body was ‘discovered’ around 8pm last night. According to those that came upon it, it was still ‘smoking’.

The area is one that leads down to a viaduct over the A2 motorway (linking Lisbon with the Algarve).

The macabre discovery comes days after the prime minister described a reduction in serious/ violent crime (citing the 2025 internal security report).
