Police call for help to identify parents of baby found dead over one year ago in recycling plant

Authorities urge public to help identify parents of newborn boy of African descent

Portugal’s PJ criminal police have issued a public appeal for information to help identify the parents of a baby boy whose body was discovered last August at a recycling plant in Trajouce, in the municipality of Cascais.

The infant, described as a full-term newborn of African descent, was found on August 1, 2024, at around 1.07pm, at the TRATOLIXO paper treatment facility. According to investigators, the baby had suffered severe head injuries that caused his death.

Given the gravity of the case, the PJ is calling on anyone in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area who may have relevant information to come forward.

Police also confirmed that a black wig was found next to the baby’s body and released a photograph of the item as part of their appeal.

Members of the public are urged to contact the Lisbon branch of the PJ on 211 967 222 or by email at chefepiquetelx@pj.pt.
