Portimão gang rape suspects remanded in custody

Three men are accused of offering drugs and alcohol to teen before raping her

Three men suspected of gang raping a 13-year-old girl in Portimão have been remanded in custody, a police source has told Lusa news agency.

The horrific case dates back to the early hours of March 4 when the teenager and three other youngsters slipped away from a local social care institution, meeting the suspects at a garden.

According to a statement from the PJ, the three men – aged 19, 21 and 32 – pushed hashish and alcohol onto the youngster until she was carried in the arms of one of the suspects to a nearby house after she became too inebriated to stand.

Inside the apartment, the three men allegedly took turns sexually abusing the young girl. Most harrowing of all, inspectors say that even when the girl regained some consciousness and began to fight back, the men refused to stop.

Authorities were alerted the same day by the legal representative of the care home. PJ’s Criminal Investigation Department in Portimão moved quickly, gathering “strong evidence” that led to the arrests.

Portimão’s Public Prosecutor’s Office is currently leading the inquiry.
