Portimão goes all out for Easter with egg hunts across city centre

Portimão is preparing to celebrate Easter with nine days of festive activities across the town.

From March 28 to April 5, several central spots –including Largo da Mó and 1º de Maio, Praça da República (Alameda), Jardim 1º de Dezembro and Jardim Visconde Bívar – will host a mix of events, decorations and attractions aimed at both residents and visitors.

The programme, “Viva a Páscoa em Portimão 2026”, opens on Saturday, March 28 at 3pm at Jardim Visconde Bívar, with a walk through the city centre setting the tone for the days ahead.

Throughout the week, the focus is on combining Easter traditions with simple, family-friendly entertainment. Streets and gardens will be decorated for the occasion, creating inviting spaces where people can stroll, take photos and spend time together.

Among the highlights is the Easter Egg Hunt, a favourite among younger generations, alongside the chance to meet the Easter Bunny, who will be travelling around the historic centre to meet with children and take photos.

The egg hunts will take place over the long weekend from April 3 to April 5, running from 3pm to 6pm each day and aimed at children up to 12 years old.

To take part, families should head to Praça da República (Alameda), where personalised cards will be handed out every 30 minutes, starting at 3pm, with the final batch available at 6pm. Participation is limited.

Children will then search for hidden numbers placed within Easter decorations spread across locations such as Jardim Bívar, Jardim 1º de Dezembro, Alameda da República, Largo da Mó and Largo 1º de Maio. Once all the numbers are found and the card is complete, it can be exchanged for chocolate eggs at TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão.

Organisers say the initiative has become a regular fixture in the city’s calendar, encouraging people to rediscover the centre while supporting local businesses.

Alongside the entertainment, the city will also mark the season with a programme of religious ceremonies during Holy Week, maintaining the spiritual side of the celebration.

All activities are free to attend and are organised by the municipal council.
