PortoBay Blue Ocean features 348 rooms and suites, direct beach access, four swimming pools, expansive gardens, a sauna, fitness centre, tennis court and many other amenities
The PortoBay Hotels & Resorts group has officially opened its latest property in the Algarve – the PortoBay Blue Ocean in Olhos de Água, Albufeira.
The new four-star hotel opened following a major revamp of the old Tui Blue Falésia, which has given the cliffside hotel a new identity.
With direct beach access to the famous Praia da Falésia and surrounded by ample green spaces, PortoBay Blue Ocean aims to provide a comfortable and tranquil experience, perfect for a “relaxing holiday or well-being break”.
The reimagined property – located just minutes from the centre of Olhos de Água – features 348 rooms and suites, all with private balconies, ranging from standard accommodations to an exclusive master suite boasting panoramic sea views. Guests can enjoy four swimming pools (including one heated indoor pool), several lounges, expansive gardens, a spa equipped with four treatment rooms, sauna, Turkish bath, and jacuzzi, a fitness centre, tennis court, live music entertainment, and even an on-site hair salon.
The hotel also prides itself on its selection of food, with two main restaurants — Mercado and Flor de Sal. At Mercado, Chef António Guerreiro presents a vibrant food-market style buffet with live cooking stations serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Meanwhile, Flor de Sal, under the guidance of Chef Pedro Spínola, offers a relaxed poolside setting and a menu inspired by local, seasonal ingredients. The restaurant celebrates the flavours of the Algarve through a contemporary lens, supported by a charming herb garden just steps away. PortoBay Blue Ocean also features four stylish bars: Lima Bar, Lounge Bar, Aqua Bar, and Sunset Bar.
Aligned with the group’s sustainability commitment, the renovation included several energy and environmental efficiency measures, such as the repurposing old furniture for staff and social institutions, the replacement of the air conditioning system with high-efficiency units that recover heat – cutting gas usage by around 75%, and the upgrading of the fan coil units, reducing energy consumption by up to 20%. Meanwhile, LED lighting now covers 90% of the hotel, while 820 solar panels supply about 15% of total energy needs. Digital guest communication has greatly reduced paper use, and electric vehicle chargers were installed in the garage. Finally, a 3,500sqm solarium and garden was created based on sustainable landscaping principles, featuring low-water-use plants and drip irrigation.
One of the most unique features of PortoBay Blue Ocean is its direct integration with the neighbouring PortoBay Falésia. Together, the two properties form a unified resort concept – Vila PortoBay Algarve – offering guests seamless access to shared facilities including gardens, dining venues, and leisure areas.
With more than 700 metres of uninterrupted oceanfront and 35,000sqm of interconnected gardens, guests can enjoy peaceful walks with panoramic Atlantic views, abundant outdoor space, and direct pathways to the beach.
“This opening represents a major expansion of our offering in the Algarve, a destination that continues to grow in visibility and demand. PortoBay Blue Ocean has its own identity but is perfectly aligned with the PortoBay DNA – attention to detail, comfort, culinary quality, and a close, distinctive style of hospitality” says António Trindade, president of the PortoBay Group.
