Portugal Telecom in Angola

Telecommunications company Portugal Telecom (PT) has revealed that it is committed to expanding its investment in Angola, through partnerships with existing communications providers based there.

While stressing the company’s long-standing commitment to Africa, PT’s chief executive, Zeinal Bava, said: “In Angola, we have two investments: one in Unitel and the other in Multitel, both of which are important partnerships, strategic for the group.”

Bava added that the “market leading” mobile service provider, Unitel, in which PT has a 25% stake, had hugely developed its engineering capacity and human resources.

When speaking about the business communications specialist, Multitel, in which PT has a 40% stake, Angola Telecom has 30% and Banco de Comércio e Indústria has 20%, Bava described their partnership an “important project”.

PT also has plans to open a new data centre in Covilhã, northern Portugal. The executive said: “PT has the ambition to serve Portugal and several countries to which we are connected such as Angola and Brazil.”
