The Algarve tourism sector continues to successfully grow outside of the summer season, with overnight stays and revenue both increasing in November, driven largely by the domestic market.
According to new data from Portugal’s National Statistics Institute (INE), the region recorded a 3.5% year-on-year rise in overnight stays, with stays by Portuguese tourists increasing significantly by 22.1% – the highest increase recorded nationwide.
In financial terms, the region posted a 12.5% increase in total tourism revenue, while accommodation revenue rose by 15.3%, placing the Algarve at the top nationally in terms of value growth.
Visitors also stayed longer. The average stay reached 3.49 nights, well above the national average of 2.32 nights.
At municipal level, Portimão stood out with a 19.9% increase in overnight stays, driven by a sharp 49.9% rise in domestic tourism, making it one of the strongest-performing destinations in the country in November.
